Why I Still Say “I ♥ Mormons”

Why I Still Say “I ♥ Mormons”

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I know we’ve moved away from using the nickname "Mormon." But let’s be real — the world hasn’t.

In fact, in some places, it’s still used as an insult.

At BYU games, in online forums, even outside the Conference Center during General Conference — the word "Mormon" gets hurled like a weapon by those who don’t understand who we really are.

But I’ll never forget one night at the Hill Cumorah Pageant when my cousin turned that word on its head.

We were used to walking through loud protestors waving signs and shouting hate. But this time, my cousin brought a handmade sign that simply said:

“I ♥ Mormons”

Then he started shouting it. Not with anger — but with joy.

The protestors tried to drown him out. They couldn’t.
The crowd started chanting with him.
He changed the entire mood of the night — with love.

That moment stuck with me. That’s why we created the "I ♥ Mormons" collection — t-shirts, hoodies, mugs and more. It’s not just merch. It’s a movement.

No, we don’t call ourselves “Mormons” anymore. But when someone tries to tear us down using that word, we choose to rise up in love.

Because love disarms hate.
Unity overcomes division.
And sometimes, a simple message — worn or shouted — can change everything.
